High School: High school is the prime time for students to pursue a career pathway. Schools can offer unique courses or specific training by partnering with local businesses. When corporations create and offer job-specific pathways to students, they create a talent pool of potential employees hire-ready upon graduation and save money by exposing these pathways to secondary, or even post-secondary, students. They can also use pathways to monitor and predict job placement years in advance.

Post-Secondary: While a college education is not for everybody, those who choose to pursue a post-secondary path in life need to be well-prepared. Studies show that the majority of students are not. An effective curriculum for college and career readiness begins with a well-defined pathway built for success. One way to better prepare students is to have them complete internships and apprenticeships to fulfill pathway requirements. This not only gives them hands-on experience but allows them to become qualified for in-demand jobs.

Career through Retirement: From the start of a person’s career and progressing through until retirement, all people should be exposed to different occupational choices through career advancements. All employees should know what it takes to get that next promotion and be on a path to achieve it.
